Sly was one of those genius type composers that could hear all of the working parts of a song before it was played. His band had a lot of working parts. His compositions allowed every member a moment to shine in the spotlight on nearly every song. Consiquently his songs all sound like a party is going on. And, these are the best kind of songs to play at a party.
On my 40th birthday (many years ago) I played Slys greatest hits over, and over until people were tired of dancing, and they were ready to go home.
Stand is widely regarded as Slys best album. It's a great album. Some of the songs have not aged well. For example "Sex Machine" is a 13 minute instrumental that was probably pretty cool back in the phsycodelic age, but sounds funny now.
Songs like Everyday People sound as fresh as ever.
I give this album 3.5 stars out of 5.
