I didn't know this was a best of compilation until after I bought it. I just didn't know enough about the band. It turns out this is one he'll of a band. Most of the songs on this album are after Rod Stewart joined the band. I'm guessing they were probably pretty great before that even.
This is like a British supergroup. Stewart, Ronnie Wood, Ronnie Lane, and Kenny Jones on drums. All seem to be playing to be heard. They all are playing flashy, look at me parts, but somehow it works. Lanes bass playing really stands out as does Woods slide guitar. Rod Stewart is at his best.
The lyrics are interesting, and personal.
I once heard Stewart telling an interviewer that Faces would have been as big as Led Zepplin had they stayed together. He could be correct. They really were that good. I'm not sure why they never broke big in the States. Maybe they didn't have good distributors.
I give this album 4 stars out of 5.
