Back in the early 90's I was a DJ in a college bar. The stoned out cooks in the bar would ask me to play "the Roach" off of this album. It's a song about weed. Based on that, and the title of the album I thought this would be an album about weed. Today was my first full listen. My assumptions were wrong.
This is an album that glorifies gun violence. Knowing what I know now about how black on black gun violence has devastated so many communities since 1992 I found this album difficult to listen to. It actually drained energy from me. Oh sure. I can appreciate that Dr. Dre is an innovative producer, and he invented a new style of hip hop. That is why I listened. However I can't get past the feeling that this album may have contributed to so much gun violence in the 90's, and early 2000's. As said. Listening to the album did not make me feel good.
I give this album 2 stars out of 5
